  • 5 drops essential oil combinations of your choice

Ingredients for dark hair

  • 4 tablespoons arrowroot powder
  • 2 – 3 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 5 drops essential oil combinations your choice

Ingredients for red hair

  • 4 tablespoons arrowroot powder
  • 1 – 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • A pinch or two of cinnamon
  • 5 drops essential oil combinations of your choice

Essential oil recommendations

  • For dandruff – lavender essential oil
  • For fragile hair – sage or thyme
  • For greasy or oily hair – basil, cypress, lemon, orange
  • For itchy scalp – Peppermint
  • For hair loss – Tea tree or lavender
  • Or any other essential oil scent that you love, that is skin safe

Directions

  1. Add arrowroot powder to a small mixing bowl
  1. For dark hair add a tablespoon at a time or for light hair a teaspoon at a time of cocoa powder. Stir it in, adding as needed depending on your hair color. If your hair has a reddish tint, add in just a pinch of cinnamon at a time, as you add the cocoa powder. Always start with less and add more until you reach your desired color.
  1. Stir in the essential oils of your choice and stir until well combined
  1. Transfer to an airtight container
  1. Using a makeup brush for application, divide hair into sections and distribute evenly by brushing the powder into the greasy sections of your hair. You only need to apply to the greasy sections of your hair. Let the powder sit for one minute and then work from the roots down to the tips of your hair. Brush any excess powder out of your hair and style hair as usual.
  1. You can also add the mixture to a baby powder or shaker bottle air-tight container and sprinkle on to the greasy sections of your hair if preferred. Then follow the same directions as above, once applied.
*Note – a little goes a long way. Do not use gel or hair spray before or during dry shampoo application. If using cocoa or cinnamon, use essential oil scents that complement them such as orange, cinnamon, or Dry shampoo is not a replacement for washing hair. It will absorb oils but does not remove dirt, buildup, and sweat. It does a great job for occasional use to treat greasy hair and to train the scalp to produce less oil. However, if used too frequently without washing, it can cause buildup on the scalp.

Enjoy!
