Gentle Honey Oat Face Scrub

Oatmeal is as good for your outside as it is for your insides – who knew!? It has the impressive ability to protect our skin from annoying irritants like unavoidable pollution or the lauryl sulfate we intentionally use daily (think soaps, shampoos, cosmetics, cleaners, and more).

In this recipe, ground oats have a natural and gentle exfoliating effect to remove dead skin cells that clog pores while effectively cleansing the skin. Antimicrobial honey helps even out skin tone and heal issues within the dermis. Lemon is antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and removes dead surface skin cells while lightening age spots!

Ingredients

  • 2 TBSP rolled oats
  • 1 TBSP raw, local honey
  • ½ TBSP fresh squeezed lemon juice

Ingredient Fact: Why are ground oats so soothing for your skin? Because they contain proteins, vitamins, and minerals known to help the skin – as well as a group of natural plant compounds called avenanthramides, which block inflammation.7, 8, 9

Directions

To Make:
  1. Using a food processor, pulse oats 5-10 times until evenly ground, but not powdered.
  2. 2 In a small bowl, mix all ingredients until completely combined and a pliable scrub has formed.
To Use:

Using clean fingers, scoop about ¼ of the mixture and gently scrub your face with it for 2-3 minutes. Rinse with warm water and follow up with a serum and/or moisturizer. For added protective benefits, allow scrub to remain on the skin for 5-10 minutes.

Storage:

You can store the remainder of the scrub in a small, sealed glass jar in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

BROWN SUGAR LIP SCRUB

Minty, moisturizing, and perfect year-round; this scrub exfoliates dead skin cells from lips while nourishing coconut oil replenishes moisture. Bonus – it's anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and anti-inflammatory!

Ingredients

  • 1 TBSP organic coconut oil
  • 1 tsp raw, local honey
  • 2 drops of peppermint essential oil
  • 2 TBSP fine-grained brown sugar, packed

Ingredient Fact: The fatty acids in coconut oil can help protect your skin against bacteria or fungi. That's why it can help against skin conditions including acne, cellulitis, and athlete's foot.10, 11

Directions

To Make:
  1. In a small saucepan over medium heat, warm coconut oil and honey until mostly melted, 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat.
  2. Stir in peppermint oil.
  3. Add brown sugar and mix until well combined.
To Use:

Gather a pea-sized amount on your finger and gently scrub lips for about a minute. Rinse off with warm water

Storage:

Stays good in a sealed container for weeks

Moisturizing & Healing Avocado Face Mask

Show your skin some love with this easy-to-make mask! Rich in fatty acids and anti-inflammatory ingredients to moisturize and heal, it's the perfect way to wind-down and replenish. Perhaps use the other half of the avocado for some heart-healthy guacamole?

You can store the second serving for up to two days, but we highly recommend sharing. Girls night, anyone?

  • ½ small, ripe avocado
  • 2 tsp raw honey, warmed
  • 1 TBSP + 1 tsp fresh-squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 tsp raw apple cider vinegar

Using a food processor, whip all ingredients together for a full minute.

Apply to clean, dry skin. Leave on for about 20 minutes, then gently remove with warm water

Ingredients

  • 1 TBSP coffee grounds
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp marula seed oil
  • 1 tsp vegetable glycerin
  • ¾ tsp raw, local honey

Ingredient Fact: Coffee is an excellent source of polyphenols, antioxidants that may help reduce visible signs of skin aging, including wrinkles and age spots.13

Directions

To Make:
  1. In a small bowl, mix coffee grounds and baking soda together. Add the remaining ingredients and mix well.
  2. Note: You can recycle the spent grounds from your morning cup of coffee for this recipe, rather than using dry grounds
To Use:

Start with clean, dry skin. Apply ⅓ to ½ of the mixture to entire face (avoid getting this in your eyes).

Leave on for 10-20 minutes. When it's time to take it off, use your fingers to gently rub the mixture into your skin; this may require a few drops of added water.

Wash off with warm water.

Storage:

Keeps well unrefrigerated.
